Police said the victim [kidnapped by her estranged husband] tried to escape several times but each time she was stopped and assaulted. On one occasion her head was slammed against a sink, which ruptured blood vessels in her eye. Officers said in a report: "The victim reported that she was beaten so many times in front of her 3-year-old son that her son started kicking her and punching her as well, trying to be like his father."
